Notes: This is the epistle on the norms of the disciple’s behavior with regarding to the Sufi master. It contains the rules pertaining to the relationship between the Sufi teacher and the students as well as their own obligations. The author depends the description on the works of his main two Sufi teachers, i.e. Safi al-Din Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Madani al-Ansari al-Qushashi (d. 1660 M) and Burhan al-Din Mula Ibrahim al-Kurani (d. 1690 M). One of main sources used and mentioned in this epistle is the work al-Qushashi entitled al-Simt al-Majid. This work is written at the request of local Ulama in Aceh who do not understand how the Sufi teacher behave and maintain their relationship with their disciples.
