Notes: This kitab, better known as Tafsir al-Baydhawi, is one of popular works on Qur’anic commentaries in the Muslim world. Its popularity is seen with the existence of many works as a gloss to the kitab, some of them being the glosses of Zâdah, al-Shihab al-Khafâjî, and al-Qûnâwî. According to al-Dhahabi, this kitab, is actually an abridgment of al-Kashshaf written by al-Zamakhshari while he also draws it upon the works of al-Razi and al-Raghib al-Asfahani on Qur’anic commentaries. As for his method of interpretation, he begins with the explanation in general, especially of the sura name and places where the verses were revealed. Then he started doing interpretation of verses, verse by verse. Last, he mentions the prophet saying on the blessing of related sura (Ali Iyazi: 161). Some of commentaries of this work in the Sulemaniye Library, Istanbul, see Parmaksizoglu 1984 II: 32-34, 1987 III: 40-45.
