It could be found as one of the main sources for religious learning, even in almost all Indonesian traditional Islamic education institutions, such as pesantren, pondok, dayah, and surau. The full name of the authors is Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Maḥallī al-Shāfi‘ī (791-865 H/1389-1459 M) and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr al-Suyuṭī (849-911 H/1445-1505 M). This work was initially written by Jalāl al-Dīn al-Mahallī. Al-Mahallī began with interpreting the Qur’an from sura al-Kahf until the end. Then, he made the interpretation of the Qur’an from sura al-Fatihah then al-Baqarah. He passed away before being able to finish his work. His disciple, Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyuṭī, then continued to do the interpretation. He made a commentary from sura al-Baqarah until the end of sura al-Isrāʾ.
